Senior Cat Care Back

Cats are considered to be senior at 10 years old. Their care requirements may change as they age. This may include transitioning to a senior diet, supporting their joints with supplements, aiding in routine grooming as their range of motion decreases, implementing low sided litterboxes, etc.

In terms of their veterinary care, routine blood testing to look for any early changes may be recommended. With early diagnosis and regular examinations, we may help slow the progression of some conditions and keep your cat healthy for a longer period.

Some common health issues that arise in senior cats include:

  • Decreased mobility
  • Decreased organ function
  • Decreased cognitive function
  • Deteriorating vision and hearing
  • Dental disease

We can use certain medications and strategies to help combat these issues, to help keep your cat as comfortable as possible.

Please discuss care for your senior cat with one of our veterinarians at any of your pets’ examinations!
