Blood Tests for Dogs Back

There are many circumstances that blood testing may be recommended and/or required for your dog. These include:

  • Annual 4DX testing (tickborne disease and heartworm screen)
  • Wellness bloodwork (general profile for suspected healthy pet to act as a baseline)
  • Senior bloodwork (screening for changes in organ function in aging dogs)
  • Pre-operative bloodwork (a general understanding of organ health prior to receiving an anesthetic)
  • Urgent bloodwork (dogs that come into clinic with suspected illness)
  • Medication use (some medication require blood testing before starting as well as routinely during use)

At Colborne Veterinary Clinic, we have an in-house laboratory that provides us with blood results within 30 minutes. This is often utilized in more urgent cases where results are required quickly. We are limited to smaller testing profiles though, therefore also rely on an external laboratory to run larger or more specific blood panels for us. The turn around time for results is often a couple of days, depending on the panel.
